SDL, Tim Burton’s evil twin and a welcome companion

I got my computer’s keyboard working again. I still have no idea what was wrong with it, but when I took it apart and put it back together again, they worked. I’ve begun tinkering with video game development using code::blocks and SDL, a 2D graphics engine. Hopefully this will keep me sharp and learning over the summer. I’m currently stumped as the compiler is telling me it can’t find the <string> library. I’ve got some intensive googling ahead of me to figure out what stupid, simple mistake I’ve made.

Yesterday I rode 40 miles in two sets of 20 miles, got a little bit of a sunburn on my shoulders (whoops), ate a ton of homemade fried fish and slept like a damn rock. This is good because I had the absolute worst nightmare of my life the night before. Imagine Tim Burton’s evil twin directing a horror movie and you’re trapped in it. That’s about what it felt like. No me gusta. Strangely I’ve been dreaming a lot lately. Or remembering it anyway. Whatever. Here are two pictures I took while out riding yesterday:

Turkey crossing

You can barely see it but in the bottom picture there’s a turkey crossing the road. He’s a tiny black speck in the picture. I got within five feet of him.

In other news my girlfriend decided to travel with me starting in July depending on where I am, which should be somewhere between Philadelphia and upstate New York. She started training yesterday with a hour long ride. It’ll be really awesome to spend some time with her out on the road, just the two of us without either of our normal lives intervening.

On a funny note my dad asked me if I’d heard of West Sixth brewpub and I said I was on a first name basis with a few of the owners. 🙂 Nice try Dad. You’ve got me bested on plenty of important things like writing talent, work experience, endurance sports, but I’ve got you in beer, particularly beer in Lexington.
